Guide to creating a fanlisting
Step 01: If you want to build a tfl approved fanlisting; go to thefanlistings.org and send in an application form (don't forget to check the approved fanlistings list as there are quite a few around already). Of course a fanlisting doesn't have to be approved =).Step 02: Have or find a place to put the fanlisting up (if you don't have you own domain or host).
Step 03: If you don't have any; search the web for pictures you can use for the layout and codes (or take some yourself).
Step 04: Open up a graphics program like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro and start on the layout. Play around with colours, brushes and textures till you are happy with the result =).
Step 05: Make codes. The most common sizes used are 50x50, 75x50, 100x35 and 100x50 (pixels). This doesn't mean you can't make codes in other sizes (like 88x31, 200x40, 50x75, etc. - go crazy!). There are a few fanlistings out there that have 0 codes, but I can recommend making at least 1 code per size as some people might not join if there are no codes available.
Step 06: Code the layout. There are a few different ways to do this; I always code my layout in CuteHTML or HTML-Kit (it depends on which computer I am). I use html and css in my coding.
Step 07: Upload everything and check for errors.
Step 08: When everything is coded perfectly, you can start adding pages (like an about page, rules, codes, join form, update form and memberslist).
A script like Enthusiast is perfect for maintaining a fanlisting, but it also makes the creating process go faster as you don't have to worry about making forms yourself. Another script you might find useless for creating fanlistings is CodeSort. Once installed, you can upload all your codes online into codesort and it makes the seperate code pages for you - all you have to do is insert a snippet at your codes.php page =).
